We have compiled a list of what our guides have with them on the River.
Tim Landwehr-Tim is a Tight Lines guide and is often asked at shows and events what we use. This is a list of what Tim has with him every day on the water during the guide season. "We need to be prepared for anything and we bring the right stuff to make sure we do the best job we can on the river everyday of the week."
Boat Boxes-
2 Superior fly box's One for topwater the other for subsurface patterns. I use these boxes to hold mass quantities of bugs.
Flies-
This is almost impossible for me to list all the patterns that I use during the course of a season, so I will break them up into my 2008 season top six top water and top six subsurface patters. You can get a good sampling of all our favorite flies with our Guide Selection Box.
Top six TOP WATER patterns for my 2008 season
Boogle Bug poppers size 4 Solar Flare, Boogle Bug size 4 Pearly White, Ham Sandwich Chartreuse and Pet, Popping Bug w/Legs Yellow/Red, Popping Bug w/o legs Red/White/Black and Minnow. Sorry with the colors it adds up to a few more than six. Its so hard to choose!
Top six SUBSURFACE patterns for my 2008 season
Bart-O Minnow, Murdich Minnow, Floating minnow Chartreuse and White and Gray and White, Menominee Mud Bug in Crayfish, Sparkle Minnow Sculpin, Tim's Muppet in Frog. I am cheating by adding a seventh fly to my to six. Whitlocks Swimming Baitfish in both 1/0 and 4 Fly Rods-
SAGE Z-Axis 9 foot 7 wt and 8 wt.
Winston B11MX 9 foot 8wt
Reels-
2-Ross Evolution 3.5 reels loaded with RIO Clouser 7 and 8 weight lines
1-Ross CLA 4 reel loaded with RIO Streamer Tip 8 weight line
Leaders and Tippet-
3-Spools Maxima chameleon and clear tippet in 8,10,12 lb
1 Spool each of RIO Powerflex tippet 0x,1x,2x,3x
4-Rio Freshwater Versileader sink tips 5.6 and 7.0 inch per second. I use these with the clouser lines to create mini sink tips for dredging up big bass.
Boat Bag-
Cloudburst Gear Bag -I can put enough stuff including extra reels and cameras in it. I also has a rain cover to make sure everything is covered in a down pour.
What is in my boat bag-
Diamond hook files in fine 4" and course 6"
Mitten scissors clamp. This is my favorite tool! I can cut heavy leader, tippet and fly lines with the scissors and use the clamp for removing deep hooked fish.
Barb Crusher-I use these because some of the hooks we use have a heavy guage wire and I need to crimp the barb down. I fish 100% barbless hooks.
Pentax Optio waterproof camera. I can keep this in my pocket through out a day and not be worried about it if it rains
Bug spray
Sun Screen 30-40SPF
Bandana for my neck to keep sun and bugs off
Daves Bug Float for hair bugs. I like the chain on it because I can hang it from my boat bag. Rain jacket and pants
Jaw spreader for BIG pike or muskie
Long pliers for pike or muskie
Small first aid kit
Crayfish hop indicators these are great for hopping a fly when fish are a bit more inactive.
Leaders and tippets. See above for sizes
